DOA CenterFire Shooting Bench Top
After years of people asking for an ambidextrous table that anyone could share without arguing over whose turn it is or whose side is “better,” we gave in and built one. Turns out equal access was a popular request.
We *generously* widened the base of our Original Standard DOA Tabletop by a whole six inches and then thoughtfully carved out a nine-inch-deep curved chest pocket so that both right- and left-handed shooters can finally enjoy equal real estate across the entire CenterFire surface. Total length remains a sleek, no-nonsense 39 inches—because heaven forbid we actually make the thing longer.
And why the wedge shape, you ask? Well, during our highly scientific R&D phase, the pretend customers we dragged in to shoot off the prototype CenterFires all insisted on shooting *across* the top instead of straight on. Shocking, we know. So rather than force them to use the wood that was just sitting there doing nothing, we simply removed it. After all, if nobody’s going to use that particular bit of lumber, why leave it in the way? There’s already more than enough surface area for your elbows, magazines, snacks, existential dread, kitchen sink, and whatever else you insist on parking up there.
The tabletops are built from 1.5 inch maple or birch plywood, whichever the lumber yard happens to have in stock that week. Weight settles somewhere between 32 and 38 pounds depending on how stubbornly dense that particular tree decided to grow. Each one carries its own grain and texture, which is a polite way of saying no two are identical, just like every other slab of wood ever cut.
You get two finish choices: natural wood or our custom camo netting. We prefer the natural look, but a noticeable number of people see plain wood and conclude we simply forgot the final step. The camo version was invented for them. The only practical difference is a coat of paint on the camo option. Both tops then get a weather-resistant coating—resistant, not weather-proof. We’re not interested in pretending a finish will laugh off a monsoon.
CenterFire Shooting Bench Tripod
The Tripod is forged from high-grade industrial steel, because lighter materials have this *adorable* little habit of flexing under recoil and politely walking your point of impact three feet left with every shot. Ours is rated to hold 500 pounds or more, so it can cheerfully laugh in the face of a 400-pound shooter plus every last scrap of their gear without so much as a quiver. At a svelte 35 pounds it’s not exactly packing itself into your daypack, but then again neither is the cannon you’re planning to bolt to it. Every steel part gets a full powder-coat treatment so it can outlive the heat death of the universe (or at least survive a few seasons of you dropping it off the truck). Fully extended it towers a majestic 37 inches; folded it shrinks to a still-not-exactly-pocket-sized 32 inches and collapses into what marketing people insist on calling a “surprisingly compact package”—because nothing screams convenience like hauling around a 35-pound steel tripod that *technically* folds.
From the very beginning we *brilliantly* chose the three-legged design for leveling purposes—because two legs would be too unstable and four would just be showing off. Our DOA Tripods feature a sophisticated three-position elevation adjustment on each leg so you can gracefully accommodate uneven terrain, or the tragic necessity of shooting downhill or (gasp) uphill. Each leg can now be independently raised or lowered to deal with that uneven ground, or to lift or drop the entire system a whole plus or minus 3 inches. So if you’re parked in a field and one leg decides it needs to sit lower than its two companions because the “terrain” has opinions, the shooter now has the revolutionary ability to simply move that one leg lower than the others. Groundbreaking.
The seat arm spins on an adjustable locking collar and offers a generous 25 inches of height travel, so you can finally stop pretending your body was designed for whatever fixed height the last guy left it at. It comes with our standard 13” × 2.5” round HD furniture-foam seat—dense enough that you can park your backside on it all day without that familiar pins-and-needles-and-existential-regret sensation that turns a fun range day into a medical study. The seat itself rotates a full 360 degrees, letting you track targets or make adjustments without the elegant ballet of standing up, shuffling three feet, and sitting back down like a Victorian lady rearranging her skirts.
One of the *truly* brilliant design choices (if we do say so ourselves, and we do) is that the seat and tabletop can all rotate independently without you ever having to abandon your throne. Whether you’re zeroing or pretending you’re hunting, you can change angles on the fly instead of tearing the whole setup apart every time the target has the audacity to move. Efficiency, thy name is “I refuse to stand up.”
What’s in the Shipment
What shows up at your door: two boxes. We’ll repeat that, since it apparently catches people off guard — two boxes per DOA order.
One holds the bench top. The other carries the tripod assembly and the rest of the bench-top hardware.
Every so often we also toss in a few extra odds and ends so you don’t have to pay a second shipping fee just to get the rest of your stuff. We could have forced everything into one giant box, but then you’d be stuck wrestling a single oversized brick through the door. Two boxes it is.
